ASUU UNIJOS Embarks On Indefinite Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos UNIJOS) Chapter, has embarked on an indefinite strike to press home their demands for improved working conditions. In a statement by the ASUU UniJos Chairman, Prof F. C. Piwuna, he said that the ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) had approved the action. He said all activities, including teaching, supervision, examination as well as statutory and ad hoc committee meetings, have been suspended.

Though Piwuna did not give further details on the reasons for the strike, it was learnt that the lecturers’ grievances bordered on, among other things, alleged discrepancies in the payments of entitlements. The lecturers are also demanding that certain allowances being enjoyed by their colleagues in other institutions be paid to them. (NAN)
